Hypocrite’s Guide to Short Sentences in Blog Posts
By admin | March 5, 2011
Keep sentences in blog posts short, especially for content that is complicated or requires specific subject matter expertise, since this helps readers, who are generally very busy and are simply looking for quick answers to pressing questions, to more efficiently pick up the main ideas of your post and evaluate how well they meet their needs as they click around from website to website without any inclination or time to sit and read the intricate details of an encyclopedia or the flowing prose of a classic novel, and since the aim in any blog post should not be to exceed the reading level of the audience, which is approximately the eighth or ninth grade, nor to overwhelm them with facts that they are unlikely to retain or care about, but rather to convey clear, concise, meaningful ideas in an easy to read format, such as in bullets or numbered lists, which allows readers to quickly scan and identify the key points of the post and to dig deeper into only the portions that interest them.
Write short sentences. Your readers will thank you.
